My advice (which I know you didn't ask for but I'll give it anyway - you know me!) is that each kid is different and unless you HAVE to quit - let him pick when. Thad was 13 months old and nursing up to 5 times a day when he just up and quit cold turkey! 3 days (and many, many, many mommy tears) later he decided he wanted to nurse again. By then the pumping was over and my dr had told me to wrap myself up to alleviate the engorging and totally overdose on ibuprofen for the intense pain and any hopes of nursing again were long gone. Thad and I hugged each other and just cried together in a little heap on the living room floor. So tragic but he had made up his little mind and was done. Gwennie, on the other hand, nursed contentedly until 22 months old (!) and by then my milk was running so low she'd get ticked at the end of the night-time feeding and finally started drinking cow's milk just because she was so thirsty. All that to say, they are all SO different and will let you know when they are done. Side note - I nursed Gwen so long because we really thought we were done having kids and I just couldn't accept that fact. Now that's not an issue and I eagerly look forward to nursing again in exactly 6 months. :)
Love you and miss you guys SO much!
Sarah DeYoungAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
